Fontana Short Track Race Report

I’m trying to be diligent about the race reports, but now that it’s been 3 days, I’m not sure I can remember what happened in the race…

After a short warm-up, I rolled to the start line to find out that the short track was going to be 15 minutes plus one lap (instead of the usual 20 minutes plus 3 laps).  That doesn’t seem like a big difference, but it is.  I barely made the lead group of 6 and I dangled off the back of that group for many laps while the others took turns attacking each other.

Willow and Heather managed to get a gap, and no one seemed interested in chasing them.  I started feeling a little better, so I decided to try to close down the gap, but I ran out of time.  I rolled across the line in 3rd and was pleased to be passing people at the end of the race instead of getting passed at the end of the race like the day before- progress….  Immediately after the podium, Zak (our new mechanic) and Amy (my new teammate) and I piled in the truck and drove the 7.5 hours up to Mill Valley, CA for our team camp.

And here I sit, with 5 free minutes to update my blog.  The last few days have been jammed packed with photo shoots, setting up new bikes (which look pretty cool if I do say so myself…) and getting to know new teammates.  Tomorrow I head home and have a few days of training before coming back here for the Team Luna Chix summit next weekend.
