Hughes Stadium ‘Cross

Sunday morning, we slept in and then headed over to Lucile’s for a good pre-race breakfast (I probably should have been a sensible bike racer and gotten the bowl of oatmeal, but when I saw the special was something with polenta, poblano chiles, scrambled eggs and salsa, I had to go for it. And it was worth it. I’m pretty sure.) With full bellies, we pedaled over to the stadium, hoping to get a few laps in on the course before the race.

The course was tough: it was pretty bumpy, there was a curb you had to hop up, some loose, gravelly corners, fast barriers and a couple long flat straightaways. I was impressed with the course, it was actually pretty fun. And fast. I raced in the 3s race and then again in the women’s race. Dusty just raced the 3s but he got a flat again (I think he knew I was catching up…) luckily Ben had an extra wheel so he was able to finish. I was pretty blown out after the women’s race, and watching a movie was about all I was good for for the rest of the day.

Nice work to everyone that put on the race- it was great to have a race so close! Hopefully next year we can get a couple more races up here.
