Post-Season Update or “Know When to Fold ‘Em”

Dropping In in South Africa

Dropping In in South Africa

Wow, I’ve really taken procrastination to new levels. After my last update I had been putting off any blog posts in the hopes that I would have some happy ending to report, but now the season is over, and it didn’t exactly end on a high note (to be fair, it didn’t end on a low note either- it just kind of ended).

First of all, you should thank me- I just deleted a solid 4-5 paragraphs of blah blah blah-ing where I pretty much state and restate these facts in various ways:

1. I didn’t have a single good race this year.

2. Lots of other random stuff didn’t help (flat tires, crashes, lack of confidence, general bummed-out-ness)

3. Despite my best efforts (and I really did bust my ass) I was never able to turn it around

4. I don’t really know what the problem was this year- my best guess is that I came into the season under-rested after an incredibly intense 2012.

So, for those of you who haven’t heard, I won’t be racing cyclocross this season (with the exception of Cross Vegas which is too awesome to pass up and the national championships which are an hour away from my house). If you are crazy, or if you didn’t read any of the above, you will be asking, “WHY??? WHY aren’t you racing ‘cross?” But if you HAVE been paying attention to my season, it will be pretty obvious why: I need some time off!

This season has been tough, mentally and physically, and I need some time to recover, regroup and get ready for next season. Even though I’m feeling pretty beaten down, I have faith that I can pull myself out of this and be back to my normal self. And heck, maybe I learn a few more things along the way!
